About the Course
Our Positive 4 People programme has been designed specifically for people who have faced disadvantage in their lives. This includes barriers such as learning difficulties, low level mental health, recovery from illness, substance misuse, or limited life chances. We don’t label or judge people, everyone is treated with the same respect.

What will I learn?
Positive 4 People is a holistic programme and has been designed to nurture individuals and help build their emotional resilience to cope with everyday life. We adopt an asset-based approach which is individual to each learner, exploring their personal interests and strengths. We create a therapeutic environment to work on areas such as building confidence and self-esteem, and coping strategies to empower the learner to improve the quality of their life and have a positive impact on their mental health.
Areas we focus on are Wellbeing & Recovery, Sport & Fitness, Employability and Creativity.

Is the course right for me?
This course is designed for those who need additional support to maximize their personal potential and ensure they are aware of all available opportunities. Learners must be 19 or over, be in receipt of benefits and live in County Durham.

What qualification will I receive?
On successful completion of this course learners will receive a Positive 4 People achievement award. As the course comes to an end, we also ensure everyone has a progression pathway in place whether this is progression into further training, work or a volunteering position. Future ongoing support is offered to all our learners.

We deliver all our training in communities across the North East. Our main training suite is in Meadowfield Industrial Estate in Durham.

This course runs over 8 sessions (1 per week).

ON THE ROAD

About the Course
Our On The Road programme encourages young people aged 16-24 years to lead a healthy, happy and active life. We offer full support to people who have experienced barriers in their lives and encourage people to build on their personal skills, experience and dreams.

What will I learn?
On The Road is a holistic programme and has been designed to nurture individuals and to help build participants’ resilience, raise their self-esteem and confidence to pursue employment. We equip individuals with coping strategies and skills which will have a positive effect on their well-being and teach them creative and positive thinking and the ability to set goals and make and maintain positive changes within their lives.
Areas we focus on are Wellbeing & Recovery, Sport & Fitness, Employability and Creativity.

Is the course right for me?
This course is designed for candidates who are 16 – 24 years old, not in employment, education or training who need additional support to maximize their personal potential to make positive changes and get into employment.

What qualification will I receive?
This programme is written and owned by First Point Training Ltd and accredited by Highfield Awarding Body. On successful completion of this course learners will receive an accreditation and certificate from Highfield.

AWARD IN PEER MENTORING
AWARD IN PEER MENTORING£75.00 per person, per day

About the Course
Peer mentoring takes place between two or more people who have lived through similar life experiences. This means the mentor has a full understanding of the issues faced by the mentee. The job of peer mentors is to provide support, a helping hand, encouragement, and information to learners both during teaching sessions and outside the classroom. This programme has been created to fulfil the needs of organisations and the clients that First Point Training work within the community. It has also been identified for the need to provide training programs and support for those organisations that deal with a range of complex issues, to give an in-house support mechanism for future persons with complex needs.

The benefits of a peer mentor includes:

What will I learn?
The three units cover a range of skills, knowledge and understanding of the role of the peer mentor. Learners will be able to prepare and understand the role of a mentor, and then demonstrate mentoring skills and techniques through observations by their assessors.
It also provides opportunities for successful learners to progress into mentor roles within the organisations they are associated with once they have completed the programme.

Is the course right for me?
This programme is aimed at persons who are recovering from drug and alcohol misuse, mental health issues and ex-offenders or those who have overcome barriers in their lives, with significant life experience, who have advice and guidance to pass on to those in similar situations.

What qualification will I receive?
On successful completion of this course you will receive an accredited qualification in Peer Mentoring through Highfield Awarding Body.

Where is the training?
We deliver all our training in communities across the North East. Our main training suite is in Meadowfield Industrial Estate in Durham.

How long will it take?
This course runs over 4 days – 9.30am – 4.00pm.

What is the cost?
£75.00 per person, per day.

These bespoke training packages with specialist elements are designed for those companies and organisations who wish to enhance the training and development of their staff to better equip them to understand the service users they work with.

BRONZE PACKAGE

An introduction to the holistic approaches that we implement in our work.  The training will provide staff with the relevant tools and skills to help motivate and encourage service users to build upon their personal skills, experiences and independence.

These include looking at raising confidence and self esteem through the use of positive affirmations, as well as looking at practical skills such as healthy eating and personal care, and how they can benefit service user’s self-sufficiency.

SILVER TRAINING PACKAGE
SILVER TRAINING PACKAGE£150.00 (inc. VAT) per person, per day

SILVER PACKAGE

The Silver package incorporates all of the key elements of the Bronze package, however there are useful added extras including training covering time management and weekly planning.  These can be used to set SMART targets, setting these targets can act as a gauge to measure and visualise development and success.

In addition, money management is also covered in this package so that staff can educate service users so they have some level of knowledge of budgeting, help to set up direct debits etc.  We also cover substance misuse and how to help a service user deal with anger.  We look at the anger escalator as well as passive, aggressive and assertive behaviour.

GOLD TRAINING PACKAGE

GOLD PACKAGE

The Gold package includes all relevant areas to help staff promote independence of service users.  This package also includes Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) training.  As a company we recognise the impact of stressful and traumatic experiences and the effects that these can have on children and young people throughout their lives.

We also provide training around asset-based approaches, these are based on the theory that communities have their own knowledge, skills and lived experience and these can be facilitated to help both individuals and communities to achieve positive change.

We also focus on how staff can promote the benefits of service user’s staying active and how this can positively impact on living independently.
